5-14-19 — Students Benefit from Partnership with Public Library

May 14, 2019 ~ In a dynamic partnership with the Olathe Public Library, Olathe elementary school librarians are spreading the word to students about this year's exciting summer reading program: A Universe of Stories. Program materials were shared with students during May and reading logs were either sent home or attached to school newsletters. Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Tim Reves will provide all schools increasing summer reading program participation by 20 percent with a monetary incentive to celebrate students completing the program this summer.

"Summer reading is summer learning" says Lori Franklin, district library media coordinator. "When students immerse themselves in a variety of texts during the summer months, reading becomes more than a pleasurable outlet. It also sparks interest, helps lead students into additional reading selections, and combats the summer slump that can occur during the weeks away from school."
