5-10-22 — Students Named U.S. Presidential Scholar Semifinalists
May 10, 2022 ~ Two Olathe School District students have been named as semifinalists for the United States Presidential Scholars program.
The students are Nicole Patrao from Olathe South High School and Gauri Yadav from Olathe North High School. Patrao was named a semifinalist in the Career and Technical Education category.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President to recognize and honor some of the nation's most distinguished graduating seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Annually, up to 161 students are chosen among outstanding graduating seniors to become U.S. Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.
Scholars are chosen on basis of their accomplishments in many areas, including academic and artistic success, leadership, and involvement in school and the community. Finalists will be announced in May.
