May 2, 2022 ~ The Olathe Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 5 in the Education Center, 14160 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for anyone wishing to participate in the special public comment meeting that begins at 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to address the board should contact Clerk of the Board, Barb Behm, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org by noon Thursday, May 5. Students from Heatherstone Elementary School will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the board’s approval of this month’s meeting agenda.
Board members will recognize state swimming champions, three outstanding students, two exceptional educators, a unique student club, and the hard work of an entire school’s staff and students.
Three informational presentations are planned. Heatherstone Elementary Principal Toni Cole will share highlights of the past year at her school. Members of the Diversity and Engagement Advisory Council will speak about work being done in Olathe high schools to build a positive experience for everyone. Olathe National Education Association President Leigh Anne Rogers plans to talk about Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6) and the impact teachers have on students every day in Olathe Public Schools.
The board will vote on a consent agenda of routine items as well as bids, contracts and agreements. Board members will act on drainage easements at Olathe East High School, and bond resolutions for Series 2022A and 2022B general obligation school bonds. They will receive information on future action items and one written report.
An executive session is planned to discuss non-elected personnel.
