10-1-18 — New High School Program Being Discussed

Oct. 1, 2018 ~ The Olathe Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 in the Education Center, 14160 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe. The meeting will begin with recognition of the 2018 Olathe Public Schools Alumni Association Wall of Honor recipients.

Following the Wall of Honor recognition and two other awards, the board will hear a presentation about a proposed career and technical education program involving local business partner Garmin. Assistant Superintendent of Support Services Jessica Dain and Career and Technical Education Coordinator Barbra Gonzalez will provide information on a proposal to develop and offer Aviation Maintenance - Avionics to Olathe juniors and seniors.

The consent agenda of routine action items will be followed by a handful of bids, contracts and agreements. These include trade bids for Canyon Creek Elementary School, an architectural/engineering proposal for interior renovations at Heartland Early Childhood Center, and software maintenance and licensing for the district’s imaging system.

Several future action items will be shared with the board, including proposals for next summer’s construction and aging facility projects, a visitor management system for 60 buildings across the district, and curriculum for the proposed Aviation Maintenance – Avionics program.

The board will receive three written reports ranging from the annual student health services report to a logo for the district’s safety and security initiative.

Board members will hold an executive session to discuss employer-employee negotiations.
