9-7-18 — Public Invited to Presentation on Teen Substance Abuse
Sept. 7, 2018 ~ Area parents and anyone interested in the issue of teen substance abuse and its legal consequences are invited to attend a free presentation hosted by the Olathe School District.
“Teen Substance Abuse and Legal Considerations” will be offered on two dates.
6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, Olathe South High School, black box theatre (park in the northwest lot and use the gym entrance)
6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, Olathe North High School, little theatre (park in the east parking lot and use the auditorium door)
Guest presenters are Johnson County Assistant District Attorney Don Hymer, and School Resource Officers Andy Falcon and Jamie Schmidt. They will cover many common questions parents have about teen substance abuse, such as drug and alcohol trends in Johnson County, and the drinking laws in Kansas for minors. The presenters will also talk about vaping, the role of the court system, and what happens if a child is caught possessing or using illegal substances at school.
A variety of resources are available to help parents start a conversation with their teen about drug and alcohol use/abuse.
