5-30-18 — Reading Programs Help Beat the Summer Slide
May 30, 2018 ~ Required reading in the classroom may be finished, but thousands of Olathe students are looking forward to summer reading activities. By signing their children up for summer reading programs, parents can help alleviate what teachers refer to as “summer slide.”
“Research shows that reading just six books during summer can help students retain learning,” said District Library Media Coordinator Lori Franklin.
This year, the Olathe Public Schools and Olathe Public Library teamed up to bring a bookmobile to the summer school program sites.
“With these visits, students will have numerous opportunities to select and read from a rich variety of books,” Franklin said. “All district students wishing to join in may read books, complete reading logs, and receive an incentive!”
