5-9-18 — Bash Serves as Annual Thank You for Volunteers
May 9, 2018 ~ Over 300 volunteers in the Olathe School District gathered for an appreciation event in their honor. The annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration is a chance to thank those who volunteer their time in classrooms and support buildings to help teachers, students and other district staff.
“We hear it over and over from our schools and administrators – the work that you do helps our district continue to be the pride of public education in Kansas,” Community Liaison Heather Schoonover told the audience.
Since August of the 2017-18 school year, 676 volunteers have tallied more than 20,725 hours to help in various ways across the district. Although district teachers and administrators consider their help to be priceless, the Points of Light Foundation puts a value of $24.14 for each volunteer service hour for a total value of $488,281.
Superintendent John Allison told the audience that students in Olathe greatly benefit from the service of the volunteers.
“This event is just a small token of our appreciation for the priceless service that our volunteers provide,” Schoonover said. “Olathe is a special place made up of incredible individuals.”
