2-14-18 — Guardianship Essentials for Students with Special Needs
Feb. 14, 2018 ~ The Olathe Public Schools Special Services Site Council will host a free seminar for parents of students with special education needs. "Guardianship Essentials: What Parents Need to Know" is the topic of the Thursday, March 1 meeting which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Instructional Resource Center, 14090 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe. (This was rescheduled from Feb. 27.)
Attorney and mediator Carly Booth will help answer questions about guardianship issues once a child with special needs reaches the “age of majority.” Common questions involve whether the student needs a guardian, steps to attain guardianship for the student, and what the law says about guardianship.
The next session will be April 19. The topic is “Maybe If I Just Try Harder: Experiencing the Challenges of a Student with a Learning Disability.”
Sign language and Spanish interpreters for these seminars can be requested by calling Sally Boyd in Special Services at (913) 780-8170. There is no need to RSVP for the seminars.
