Feb. 9, 2018 ~ Nicole Patrao, an eighth-grader from Chisholm Trail Middle School, won the Olathe Spelling Bee in 13 rounds and will represent the district at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Approximately 45 students competed in the bee. Patrao correctly spelled "cytoplasm" to win the bee. Angelo Barone, a Walnut Grove Elementary School fifth-grader, came in second place.
"We are proud of all of the participants who represented their individual schools and our district so well," Executive Director of General Administration/Elementary Programs Brent Yeager said. "Nicole did an outstanding job and we wish her the best of luck at the National Spelling Bee.”
The 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee will be held May 27-June 1, near Washington, D.C. "The Olathe News" sponsors the Olathe bee.
