2-5-18 — Special Theme Promotes Importance of School Lunches

Feb. 5, 2018 ~ Bright colors, ranging from emerald green building cutouts and gleaming yellow brick road banners, adorned elementary school cafeterias during Kansas School Lunch Week, Jan. 22-26. Throughout the Olathe Public Schools, Food Services employees worked hard to promote the theme of “Lunch Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

“Events like this allow us to show off our quality meals and dedicated staff,” district dietitian Steven Newman said.

A marketing team in the Food Services office develops the local theme for Kansas School Lunch Week.

“We develop materials that we send to all of our school offices to help generate building support for the idea,” he said. “We provide our staff with online resources as well as some art supplies so they can bring their ideas to life. Our ultimate goal is to excite the students and have them join us for a healthy school lunch!”

Food Services staff showed their creativeness with games, decorations, costumes and special menu items that promoted school lunch and created excitement in cafeterias across the district.
