Jan. 8, 2018 ~ During its first meeting of the new year, members of the Olathe Board of Education will welcome newly elected board member Brian Geary. The board will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 in the Education Center, 14160 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe.
After the swearing in of Geary and re-elected board members Amy Martin and Brent McCune, the board will recognize a community partner, a teacher, school resource officers, and several students for their outstanding accomplishments.
One presentation is planned for the meeting; revisions to the graduation policy. Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Jessica Dain will discuss the dual enrollment college coursework policy, early graduation policy, and graduation requirements beginning with the class of 2020.
The board will take action on a number of items including a consent agenda, bids / contracts / agreements, official name for Elementary School #36, and board of tax appeals application for Summit Trail Middle School. Board members will receive information on future action items ranging from curriculum to special meetings. One written report will be shared with the board members.
The board is expected to hold an executive session to discuss personnel issues and consult with its attorney.
