2025-26 State Sports Championships

Fall 

Gymnastics  

Olathe North High School won the Class 6A gymnastics state championship, earning its fifth consecutive title and setting a new state record for most consecutive championships in the sport.  

In individual events, Olathe East High School junior Kailynn Sparks placed first on beam. Olathe Northwest junior Sophia Beaumont won the all-around, floor exercise, vault and uneven bars.  

Girls' Tennis  

The Olathe Northwest High School girls’ tennis team won the Class 6A state championship, securing an impressive back-to-back title.  

The Ravens earned the championship earlier this year at the College Boulevard Activity Center, scoring 38 points to claim their second consecutive state title.  

“As the year went on and as the results came in, my confidence really started to grow,” Coach Drew Smith said. “We had a goal to repeat, and the girls embraced that as a realistic challenge from the very beginning. To see it become a reality is amazing. They all performed so well and beyond my expectations.” 

Winter 

Swim and Dive  

Olathe East senior Ellis Malone was named the Class 6A state diving champion with a score of 500.80. He made his goal of winning the championship after finishing third as a sophomore and climbing to runner-up last season with a score of 425.25.  

Wrestling  

Olathe North’s Blake Samuelson claimed a Class 6A boys wrestling state championship in the 157-pound division, delivering a top finish in his weight class to secure the title.  

Olathe East’s Audrey Lennard captured the Class 6A girls wrestling state title in the 145-pound division, successfully defending her championship and finishing at the top of her bracket once again.  

Olathe South High School’s Jovani Caudill earned the Class 6A boys wrestling state championship in the 165-pound division, also repeating as state champion and capping off another strong year in his wrestling career.   

Esports 

Esports held its inaugural state championship, where teams competed in Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart. Olathe West High School took first place in Rocket League and were named co-state champions overall.  

The tournament was held at the state-of-the-art esports arena at the Olathe Public Schools Innovation Campus. The space allows teams to warm up, features live match displays and provides an area for fans to gather and show support. During the championship, fans packed the room to cheer on their favorite players.  

Boys' Basketball 

The Olathe North boys’ basketball team won the Class 6A state championship, earning the first state basketball title in school history.  

The Eagles reached the state championship tournament for the fifth consecutive year, but this season ended with a historic breakthrough as they captured the program’s first state title. The win capped a milestone year for Olathe North basketball.  

“With this group, you see the talent, you see the ability, and then you see the passion for playing good, hard-nosed, tough, aggressive basketball. And they played for each other,” Coach Adam Olerich said.  

The championship marks a historic achievement for the Eagles basketball program. 

Spring 

Girls' Swim and Dive

The Olathe East girls' swim and dive team celebrated two individual Class 6A state champions this season.

Senior Libby Barney captured the state title in the 200-yard freestyle, while Irene Gettya earned the Class 6A championship in 1-meter diving, giving the Hawks two individual state titles at the meet.

Track and Field

The Olathe North boys' track and field team claimed the Class 6A state championship, showcasing depth and speed throughout the state meet.

The Eagles also earned a state title in the 4x100-meter relay, with Camron Porter, Akobi Bruce, Jackson Parker and Jayson Rush combining for a championship performance.

The Olathe North girls' track and field team also won the Class 6A state championship, capping off a dominant season with multiple individual and relay titles.

State champions for the Eagles included the 4x100-meter relay team of Kayden Maney, Sienna Wesley, Jasmine Simons and Kate Figgins; Avani Hocker Singh in the 300-meter hurdles; the 4x400-meter relay team of Kayden Freemon, Kate Figgins, Kayden Maney and Avani Hocker Singh; Sienna Wesley in the long jump; Kennedy Tobaben in the javelin; and Elena Ginie in the pole vault.

Olathe West also produced two individual state champions. David Harper won the Class 6A boys' high jump title, while Cade Zimmerman captured the boys' javelin championship.

Olathe East celebrated three individual and relay state championships on the boys' side. Ryan Hartz won the 400-meter dash, Nico Cabral claimed the 200-meter dash title, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Jack Anderson, Brice Schober, Nico Cabral and Ryan Hartz earned a state championship.

Olathe South's Emani Clifton earned the Class 6A girls' shot put state championship, finishing at the top of the podium in her event.
