What is cross country?
Cross country is a sport in which teams run a race on an open air course over natural terrain such as dirt or grass.
How far do you have to run?
In high school, cross country courses are 5,000m (3.1 mi.) in length.
How far do you run in training?
In training we run anywhere from 2-10 miles. Beginning runners will build slowly and experienced runners sometimes run farther.
When is summer conditioning?
Summer conditioning will begin Monday, June 12th. Conditioning will take place M-TH, and Saturday mornings starting at 7am.
Where is summer conditioning?
Summer conditioning will take place at Olathe West for practices during the week. Occassionally Saturday long runs will be held at different locations to be announced on our twitter. Follow us at @Owlxc.
Do I have to participate in summer conditioning?
ISummer conditioning is competely voluntary. We encourage athletes to come run over the summer to achieve their best performances in the fall!
What if I have never run before?
Most high school cross country athletes have not previoulsy run before joining. We will have athletes of all skill levels. It's a great way to meet friends before school starts, and often multi-sport athletes use cross country to be in prime condition for later competitions.
