Joel Branstrom

Coach Branstrom is currently in his 13th year of teaching biology and heading up the girls’ program at Olathe Northwest.

Joel Branstrom begins his 13th year as the Raven’s head coach. Before coming to Olathe he spent six successful years as a teacher and a coach for the boys at Lawrence High School. In his career, Branstrom has led or assisted in five tournament championships (three at Lawrence High School and two at Olathe Northwest); three Sunflower League championships (one at Lawrence, two at Northwest); four state tournament appearances (one at Lawrence, three at Northwest) with a state runner-up for the Ravens in the 2011-2012 season. He was named the Sunflower League and KC Star Coach of the Year in 2012. In that same year, Branstrom was awarded the prestigious Eddie Ryan Award. Coach Branstrom has been very fortunate to play for state and national Coaches of the Year at the high school, junior college and Division I levels respectively. Born and raised in California, he was a distinguished student athlete at Half Moon Bay High School (located 18 miles south of San Francisco), leading the Cougars to the school’s first ever league title in 1992. He moved on to become a two-year starter at Canada Junior College in Redwood City, winning a conference title. The Colts were ranked in the top 10 in in each of those two seasons.  Branstrom came to Lawrence, Kansas, in 1994 to fulfill a boyhood dream of playing basketball at the University of Kansas. He made the team as walk-on his junior and senior seasons. In his senior season (1996-97) the Jayhawks posted a record of 34-2 and finished the regular season ranked No. 1. While at KU, Coach Branstrom was part of two conference championships: The Big 8 Conference (1995) and the first-ever Big 12 Conference and Tournament Championship teams (1997).  Over the last 25 summers, Coach Branstrom has worked with elementary, junior high and high school girls and boys in various basketball camps, including the Legarza and Kansas Basketball Camps. He also has coached girls golf and junior high volleyball. He brings an enthusiasm for life and the game of basketball as a player and a coach into the Lady Raven basketball program. Coach Branstrom and his wife, Christiane, were married in June 1998. They have four children: Jaiden (13), Noah (11), Emma (9), and Bryan (7).

Evan Hoisington

Coach Hoisington enters his fourth year as an educator in Olathe and begins his fifth season coaching basketball. This will be his third season with the Lady Raven Basketball Program. Hoisington is an Olathe Northwest alum, graduating in 2007. He lettered in basketball, football, and tennis during his time here as a Raven. He has ties to the Lady Raven basketball team as his sister, Kara, was a four-year player in our progam before graduating in 2010. After graduating from ONW, he took a scholarship at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, where he played four years. Hosington was selected as an honorable mention in both singles and doubles in 2009. He was also selected as an NAIA scholar athlete in 2011. Hoisington earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education, where he is currently teaching first grade at Manchester Park Elementary. Coach Hoisington married his wife, Brianna, in July 2014.

Chris Herrig

Coach Herrig enters his eighth year as an educator in Olathe and his fifth season on the coaching staff with the Lady Raven basketball program. Raised in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Herrig grew up playing multiple competitive sports including basketball. He has three older brothers who were all very competitive and remain competitive today. He grew up attending or participating in all types of sports. In high school, Herrig played basketball, baseball and golf. His parents were always very supportive of anything he participated in. Coach Herrig earned his degree in elementary education from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. He graduated in December 2005. He currently teaches first grade at Meadow Lane Elementary.
