Rick Setter

Rick Setter is currently teaching Government and Sociology at Olathe Northwest and is in his eighth year as Varsity Head Coach at ONW with a 86-68 record and two regional championships. Also 4th place in state in 2017. 

Coach Setter coached three years at Olathe North in that baseball program. He coached the Olathe Northwest senior summer team in 2005 where they finished 6th in the USSSA 17 and under World Series. He was the Varsity Assistant coach at ONW for seven years. As a Varsity coach he has had eight players go on to Division I schools and 36 go on to play Collegian baseball. 

In addition to baseball, Coach Setter has coached girls and boys golf and girls and boys basketball. Coach Setter graduated from Kansas State University in 1997 with a degree in Social Science Education. In 2002, he also received a Masters from Baker University in Secondary Humanities Education. He was a two-year letterman in basketball at Olathe South. Coach Setter currently lives in Olathe, and has an 11-year-old daughter, Lynn.

Eddie Crupper

Coach Crupper will begin his second season as the new varsity assistant coach. He is re-entering the world of high school baseball after a three-year hiatus. Coach Crupper came to Olathe Northwest in the fall of 2011 from Neosho, Missouri, where he was the head coach of the Neosho Wildcats for eight years. Inheriting a team that had won eight total games in its past three years, Crupper led the Wildcats to six straight second-place conference finishes, competing in the Central Ozarks Conference. His tenure was highlighted by back-to-back legion district championships in 2006 and 2007. Before Neosho, Crupper assisted programs at Lee’s Summit High School and Joplin High School, where he worked under Missouri Hall of Fame coach Joe Ketchum.

Coach Crupper is the special teams coordinator for the ONW football team and teaches math at ONW. He has been married to his wife Jill for 20 years. He has two kids, Easton and Hannah.

C Team Coach

Brett Mesa

Brett Mesa is in his second year at Olathe Northwest and will be helping coach our C team. Coach Mesa is from Garden City, Kan., and attended Garden City High School.

During his high school years he was a four-year letter winner and starter in baseball, four-year letter winner in wrestling and three-year letter winner in football. In baseball, he earned honorable mention all Western Athletic Conference and second team all WAC honors. After high school, he continued his baseball career at Garden City Community College and Ottawa University, helping his team win the Jayhawk West Conference at GCCC.

Coach Mesa’s ultimate goal is to develop players who are strong mentally and physically, and young men who are respectable on and off the playing field.

Brett holds a degree in health and human performance from Fort Hays State University, and is working at ONW as a job coach paraeducator. Brett also helps coach wrestling at ONW.

Lee Sappingfield

Lee Sappingfield teaches technology education at Olathe Northwest. He is in his second year as a baseball coach at ONW.

Coach Sappingfield coached softball at Olathe East for 14 years. He was a part of five state champion teams and worked with many Division 1 athletes. In addition to baseball, Coach Sappingfield has coached track and girls basketball. Coach Sappingfield graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1997 with a degree in technology education. In 2001, he also received a masters degree in technology for education from Lesley University. He played college football at Fort Scott Community College. He was a three-year letterman in track and football at Olathe South. Coach Sappingfield currently lives in Lenexa and has two sons, Drew and Blake.

He earned the Master Teacher of the Year Award in 2007 while at Olathe East.
