The Olathe Public Schools Learning Services Department supports the district’s academic and social-emotional goals by providing resources and guidance to staff, parents, and students to ensure every learner is prepared for the future. The department is organized into six teams—Assessment and Curriculum, Behavior and Social Emotional Learning (BSEL), Instructional Technology and Library Media, Professional Development and Instructional Coaching, New Educator and University Partnerships, and Special Services—all working together to support teaching and learning across the district.

Big3 Training Modules and Learning Opportunities

Providing support for our staff is of the utmost importance. Below you will find resources to support staff in synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.

All sessions are approximately 60-90 minutes in length. Created in Nearpod, they may be delivered by an instructional coach, building administrator, or teacher leader. The training may be provided to an entire staff, a department or grade level, or an individual PLC. The sessions are housed in the Nearpod District Library in the Big 3 Professional Learning folder. For questions on accessing and launching the sessions, please contact your Instructional Coach.

Leaders for Learning

Purpose

The Leaders for Learning in the Olathe Public Schools is a representative group of staff members — teachers, support staff, administrators, and classified personnel— who advise the Superintendent and the local Board of Education in matters concerning the coordination, implementation, and operation of Olathe’s Professional Learning Program for licensed/certified and classified staff. This group includes the Building Representatives, the Steering Team, and others, and fulfills the state mandated functions of the Professional Development Council (PDC).

Functions

Development of the Olathe 5-Year Professional Learning Plan to be approved by the Olathe Board of Education and submitted to the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE)
Annual review of the Olathe Professional Learning Plan with adjustments made as needed
Evaluation of Professional Learning Plans at the individual, building, and district levels
Communication of Professional Learning procedures for individual, building, and district plans
Annual participation in training for PDC members is provided by KSDE-trained Olathe staff (occurs at the first regularly scheduled fall meeting and updates are provided as needed)
