Retirees enjoy a variety of social events, including the fall and spring celebrations, Bunco, day trips, cooking, fundraisers at entertainment venues, and the Texas Roadhouse luncheon which raises money for scholarships. The Texas Roadhouse luncheon typically occurs in April. Members are notified about upcoming social events via the OPSREA Facebook page as well as the district maintained membership email list. Membership in OPSREA is open to all people who have retired from Olathe Public Schools. Dues are currently $20 per year. Membership in the Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel (KARSP) is also encouraged; these dues are $25 per year.

OPSREA dues are aligned with the school year (September to June). Dues paid after March 30 will apply to the next school year. KARSP dues expire Dec. 31 each year. Members can pay at the September gathering, or send dues to the OPSREA office at 300 E. Loula, Olathe KS 66061.

Each year, two graduates of the Olathe high schools receive $1,000 scholarships from the Olathe Public Schools Retired Employees Association. OPSREA conducts fundraisers to provide these scholarships for Olathe Public Schools graduates intending to pursue education degrees.

The association also offers a $1,000 scholarship for a current classified employee of the district who is going to school to become a teacher.
