Who We Are

Located at Olathe East High School, Students in the Civic Leadership Academy will engage in the world of legal studies and public administration, preparing to become leaders who advocate for change, promote justice, and help keep society running smoothly. Through this program, students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to lead effectively in the fields of public administration and legal studies while also becoming community builders, problem solvers, and leaders within their school and community.

What We Do

Students will discover and define their individual leadership potential while developing employability skills essential for careers in public service, including law, city and county government, and non-profit organizations. They will learn to think both locally and globally when identifying and solving real-world, diverse problems and will have opportunities to collaborate with dynamic community, corporate, and political leaders. Students will also explore sources and types of law, including civil and criminal law, examine ethics in legal decision-making, and study effective strategies to manage and motivate people.

A Look Inside Civic Leadership

Endorsement Requirements and Sample Plan of Study

The endorsement requirements provided in the documents below gives the requirements for achieving an endorsement at one of three levels: Endorse, Endorse with Honors, or Endorse with High Honors

Students will set goals with their academy facilitator and their IPS will reflect their plan. Students can design their IPS and endorsement goals based on their individual needs. Students can move from one level to another as they need to. The student's plan is re-visted each year to make sure the student is on track and their plan still reflects their interest.

The Four-Year Individual Plan of Study (IPS) provided in the document list below is a SAMPLE. Each student's IPS is individualized to the student's needs and interests. The academy facilitator will work with the student along with their school counselor.
