Who We Are

We fuse technology, research, and hands-on patient care to help students discover the many opportunities available within the life sciences field. Through a variety of specialized experiences and innovative labs, students gain exposure to three major areas of study. In genetics, they take an in-depth look at our genetic code by studying DNA and the many proteins and building blocks it creates. In research, students learn how to conduct investigations using specialized equipment found in life science and biotechnology labs, building valuable skills that prepare them for future careers. In human healthcare, the overall focus is on blending the study of genetics and research with real-world applications in patient care. During their senior year, students have the chance to participate in internships throughout the healthcare industry, where they can apply their background knowledge in professional settings and gain meaningful experience in patient care environments. This combination of rigorous academics, practical training, and hands-on experiences allows students to see how science directly connects to improving lives.

What We Do

Located at Olathe North High School, the Medical Professions academy uses industry-standard research lab equipment and provide partnerships with educational and industry leaders in a wide range of life science fields. Students have opportunities to shadow and intern at hospitals, research laboratories, and patient care facilities, while also studying and manipulating DNA and proteins.

Endorsement Requirements and Sample Plan of Study

The endorsement requirements provided in the documents below gives the requirements for achieving an endorsement at one of three levels: Endorse, Endorse with Honors, or Endorse with High Honors

Students will set goals with their academy facilitator and their IPS will reflect their plan. Students can design their IPS and endorsement goals based on their individual needs. Students can move from one level to another as they need to. The student's plan is re-visted each year to make sure the student is on track and their plan still reflects their interest.

The Four-Year Individual Plan of Study (IPS) provided in the document list below is a SAMPLE. Each student's IPS is individualized to the student's needs and interests. The academy facilitator will work with the student along with their school counselor.
