Who We Are
Located at Olathe West High School, the Green Tech Academy is one of the few programs in the nation where high school students can study renewable energy and sustainability in depth. Over the course of four years, students explore how society’s use of energy impacts daily life, engage the community in conversations about the environment, and pursue technological innovations that address climate change. Graduates of the program are prepared to become the next generation of wind turbine technicians, environmental engineers, and sustainable farmers.
What We Do
Students in the Green Tech program explore renewable energy and sustainability through hands-on experiences and real-world applications. They travel to wind farms, solar arrays, and hydroelectric plants, use advanced training equipment to study renewable energy, and learn about environmental design within one of the most sustainable high school buildings in the nation. Students build wind turbines and electric vehicles for STEM competitions, grow their own food, and manage energy usage at Olathe West by tracking key sustainability metrics.

Endorsement Requirements and Sample Plan of Study
The endorsement requirements provided in the documents below gives the requirements for achieving an endorsement at one of three levels: Endorse, Endorse with Honors, or Endorse with High Honors
Students will set goals with their academy facilitator and their IPS will reflect their plan. Students can design their IPS and endorsement goals based on their individual needs. Students can move from one level to another as they need to. The student's plan is re-visted each year to make sure the student is on track and their plan still reflects their interest.
The Four-Year Individual Plan of Study (IPS) provided in the document list below is a SAMPLE. Each student's IPS is individualized to the student's needs and interests. The academy facilitator will work with the student along with their school counselor.
