Who We Are
Located at Olathe North High School, students in the Geoscience Academy have a desire to study the earth and its processes. They engage in exploration of the world of Geoscience by engaging in authentic learning experiences, working with industry standard research equipment and scientific tools. A sense of community is developed through their collaborative experiences with other like-minded individuals. The study of Geoscience addresses critical issues such as water and mineral resources; stewardship of the environment, along with studies in meteorology, oceanography, marine biology, paleontology, and more.
What We Do
Students in this program study ocean life through more than 3,000 gallons of saltwater aquaria and gain real-world experience by working with industry and university professionals through partnerships and internships. They explore the natural world to identify environmental challenges, design independent projects based on personal interests, and take part in field experiences to the ocean and mountains to apply their knowledge. With access to advanced lab equipment such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS), a paleontology lab, and a Weatherbug weather center, students are prepared for future opportunities in environmental and scientific fields.

Endorsement Requirements and Sample Plan of Study
The endorsement requirements provided in the documents below gives the requirements for achieving an endorsement at one of three levels: Endorse, Endorse with Honors, or Endorse with High Honors
Students will set goals with their academy facilitator and their IPS will reflect their plan. Students can design their IPS and endorsement goals based on their individual needs. Students can move from one level to another as they need to. The student's plan is re-visted each year to make sure the student is on track and their plan still reflects their interest.
The Four-Year Individual Plan of Study (IPS) provided in the document list below is a SAMPLE. Each student's IPS is individualized to the student's needs and interests. The academy facilitator will work with the student along with their school counselor.
