Who We Are

Located at the Olathe Public Schools Innovation Campus, the Animal Science and Research Academy prepares students for careers in animal care and agricultural sciences while also guiding them toward postsecondary opportunities. Students gain hands-on experience through daily interaction with animals in the classroom, industry visits, guest speakers, and personal projects. They learn proper animal handling techniques, explore anatomy and physiology across species, and study how body systems impact health, growth, and performance. The program emphasizes animal welfare, food science, and the importance of preserving agriculture for the future. Students also explore career paths through veterinary hospital tours, job shadowing at large animal facilities, and active involvement in FFA.

What We Do

Students in this program partner with educational and industry institutions to gain access to advanced learning and employment opportunities. By integrating essential workplace skills into both classroom and laboratory instruction, the program ensures students are prepared for future careers and postsecondary success.

Future Farmers of America Overview

Our chapter was created in 2021 and affiliated in 2023, meaning every student enrolled in ASR is a member of the National FFA Organization. Having FFA incorporated into our curriculum assists students with leadership skills, personal growth, a general understanding of agriculture and an opportunity to participate in competitions and learn new skills. FFA also provides scholarship opportunities to active members and the prospect of holding an officer position within the chapter. Participation in and outside of class is encouraged and helps to build character as well as gain community service hours. Please visit the Kansas FFA website for more information on the benefits of being a part of this amazing organization.
