2019 Board of Education Election

  • Nov. 6, 2019 Update ~ Following yesterday’s election, voters elected Brad Boyd to the Olathe Public Schools Board of Education Position 2, representing District 2.

    Boyd is a program manager with Sprint and has three children who attend Olathe schools. He is involved in the Indian Creek Elementary Site Council and school counseling advisory council, and previously served on the PTO. Boyd hopes to support the district’s safe and secure schools efforts, prepare students for their future, and provide a quality education and equitable learning experience for all students.

    Joe Beveridge, LeEtta Felter and Shannon Wickliffe were elected for another four-year term after running unopposed. All four board members will be sworn in during the board’s Jan. 16 meeting.

Qualifications: Current school board member, active member of the community serving in multiple capacities, and engaged parent with three children in the school district.

Priorities: Continue to support Mr. John Allison; specific areas of interest include mastery connect, dual language immersion; and work to support the districts efforts with social and emotional welfare.

Civic Involvement: Member of both the Lenexa and Olathe Chambers of Commerce, former Lenexa Chamber Board chairman, former chair of Lenexa Chamber’s Legislative Committee; member of the county-appointed 10th Judicial District Nominating Committee; active member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection; coach for youth soccer and basketball

Qualifications: As a child advocate, I am extremely involved in public policy at our state level and federal level. I have served for over eight years on the Olathe Public Schools Board of Education and have a track record of good governance.

Priorities: To continue to help shape public policy in order to assure that the Olathe School District is able to prepare our students for their future. I’m excited about the Olathe Public Schools Strategic Plan, which we approved in the October Board of Education meeting. I believe it provides a wonderful framework to guide us into the future.

Occupation/Employer: Program manager

Qualifications: I am just a dad who wants the very best for my children. I currently reside in the Olathe School District. All my school age children attend schools in the district. I am a strong advocate of public schools. I have talked to and communicated with numerous stakeholders throughout the district and I have an informed perspective framed by the community and my life’s experiences.

I spent nearly eight years serving the City of Wichita as a police officer and I have seen first-hand the some of the challenges that our children face and I have seen the community rally together to help students and families overcome those same challenges.

Priorities: Safe and Secure Schools, Preparing Students for Their Future and Quality Education and Equitable Experience.

Civic Involvement: Served on PTO, currently serve on Indian Creek Site Council and the School Counseling Advisory Council. I coach my son’s 13u AAA baseball team as well.

Family: My wife is Emily Vincent, and we have two young boys who are 3 and 6.

Occupation/Employer: Lead development engineer at WaterOne

Qualifications:

• K-12 graduate of Olathe Public Schools and near lifelong resident of Olathe
• Parent of current Olathe elementary school student and past high school exchange student
• Experience with working at a public organization and elected board

Priorities:

• Be a strong supporter of maximizing school revenue sources provided that the district continues to be fiscally responsible
• Support a budget that funds programs which provide education opportunities for all types of post-graduation paths not just the four-year university one
• Promote the excellence of the school district and make it remain an employer of choice
• Support innovation for STEM programs, social science programs, and language programs which all help prepare students to understand and compete in the global economy

Family: Wife – Stefanie. We have two daughters who graduated from Olathe Public Schools.

Occupation/Employer: chief development officer at KidsTLC

Qualifications: I am a past president of the Olathe Public Schools Foundation and current president of the Board of Education. I was the community co-chair of the 2013 bond task force and member of Leadership Olathe Class of 2014.

Priorities: Continuing to adapt to fit the needs of each student as we prepare them for their future and supporting our educators and staff in that mission.
