Vendor Change for 2021

  • The district will be changing life insurance vendors from Lincoln Financial to The Hartford beginning on January 1, 2021. See the 2021 Life Insurance tab for more information.

KPERS Life Insurance

  • KPERS provides all current employees a basic group life insurance policy valued at 150% of their current salary. Olathe Public Schools pays for your KPERS life insurance policy. You can change your beneficiaries at any time. The policy does end when you retire or separate from the district. You can port this policy if you desire to continue the coverage on your own.

Voluntary Life Insurance

  • Life insurance is one way of providing protection for your family in the event of your death. Each year at open enrollment you have the opportunity to purchase additional life insurance through Lincoln Financial to cover of yourself, your spouse, and your child.

    Employee Life Insurance

    Available in $10,000 increments with a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of the lessor of 7 times the employee's salary or $300,000.

     

    During open enrollment:

    • Employees currently enrolled in this plan can increase their coverage by $10,000 or $20,000 without Evidence of Insurability questions.
    • Any amount elected over the $20,000 guarantee issue amount will require the Evidence of Insurability question to be answered. 
    • Coverage elected over the $20,000 guarantee issue will not be applied until an Evidence of Insurability form has been completed and approved by Lincoln Financial.
    • An Evidence of Insurability will be required for any amount of coverage elected by employees over age 60 and/or have previously been declined.

     

    Spouse Life Insurance

    Available in $10,000 increments with a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of the lessor of 3.5 times the employee's salary or $150,000.

     

    During open enrollment:

    • Employees currently enrolled in this plan may elect to increase their coverage by $10,000 without Evidence of Insurability questions.
    • If your spouse is not currenly enrolled, you can elect spouse coverage of $10,000 without Evidence of Insurability questions.
    • Any amount elected over the guarantee issue will not be applied until the Evidence of Insurability form has been completed and approved by Lincoln Financial.
    • An Evidence of Insurability will be required for any amount of coverage elected for spouses over age 60 and/or for spouses that have previously been declined.

     

    Child Life Insurance

    The benefit amount for each dependent child is $10,000. During open enrollment, children can be enrolled in the plan without Evidence of Insurability. Their coverage stops at the end of the month they turn 26 years old. If both parents work in the district only one parent can elect coverage on the same child.
