CTE College Connections
Dual Credit & Excel in CTE
In January 2012, a bold and innovative plan to enhance career technical education in Kansas and better prepare high school students for college and careers was instituted. The legislatures responded with Senate Bill 155, now known as Excel in CTE. The main purpose of the bill is to stimulate growth in Career & Technical Education at both the secondary and post-secondary level in Kansas. The Kansas workforce will increasingly demand a more highly-technical and highly-skilled worker and Excel in CTE is aimed at meeting those future demands.
Through partnerships with postsecondary leaders, Olathe Public Schools is able to offer students dynamic opportunities to earn college credit and articulated credit to take full advantage of this exciting opportunity. Olathe Public Schools offers 19 careeer pathway options for student success in today's highly skilled workforce. With one of the widest expanse of programs in the state, high school students can choose from high-demand opportunities such as health care, manufacturing, engineering technology, human services and more.
High school students can earn college credits in technical courses and at the same time, earn an industry credential valued by employers. Courses which qualify for Excel in CTE are able to use state dollars to pay for the students college tuition for those select courses. The free college tuition applies to any and all technical courses in approved programs at public community and technical colleges.
